Beginning a new week and day with coffee and bible is vital for me, I am always seeking refreshing from God because life drains me and I need constant refilling. Today I read Isaiah 25:4-5 and saw something that to me is amazing truth full of life and hope.
The earth dries up and withers,
the world languishes and withers,
the heavens languish with the earth.
The earth is defiled by its people;
they have disobeyed its laws,
violated the statutes
and broken the everlasting covenant.
The word that caught my attention and sparked my thoughts is covenant. The thought began that we are created to live and flourish in a covenant with our Creator and the creation. Therefore, when we break covenant with God as described in Romans 1:20-25, we also break covenant with creation.
Covenant is relationship, truth, faithfulness, and is constant. So in covenant we are constantly faithful towards God who is faithful to us, and true to the truth of who He is and therefore to the truth of who we are. So, as we break covenant with God we become unfaithful to who God is. And to the truth of who we are, and to our relationship with the created world, nature and environment.
Here is refreshing
The truth I saw is this: Being true to God is being true to creation, to the earth. To be untrue to God is to be untrue to the earth. So when we are unfaithful towards God, which is to be untrue; we are also unfaithful towards the earth. Sadly our unfaithfulness to truth brings defilement upon the planet.
The hope is, we can turn back to being faithful to our God, our Father in heaven. We can choose to be true to Him and to see truth in Him. And as we return we discover he is mercy and goodness, and he not only forgives but restores what was defiled, withered and cursed.
Therefore, I have hope that as I and others return to living in God’s truth we can see the curse broken, the defilement cleansed, the withered springing to new life not only in our soul and person, and in relationships and society; but also in the very earth itself.
“For creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.”
So the first and best thing I can do for you and the earth is live faithful and true to Our Creator and I can do this through knowing and growing a personal relationship with Jesus, and so can you.
By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see. Acts 3:16
This miracle illustrates in this mans body the restoring purpose and power of God. When restoration comes a bit slower, and the healing happens little by little it does not lesson the significant truth, that as we are faithful and true to God’s truth and faithfulness restoration and healing comes to the created world. And maybe as more of us desire God we will see more refreshing and restoration of earth.
I conclude with Acts 3:19-21
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you – even Jesus. Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he has promised long ago through his holy prophets.
I urge you to join me in turning to Jesus, and desiring to live faithful and true to Him, expecting this refreshing restoring flow to touch refresh and restore everything in our life and everything and everyone our life touches.
