Will our anger and fear stir our hearts to hunger for Jesus?

This particular blog is a prayer from the groan and hunger in my heart. The focus is those who testify to knowing Jesus Christ and being his followers.

Where is our hunger?

I have recently been led by the Spirit into a new appointment from which I serve Him, and his body. This appointment is to minister in prayer and word focused on the body of Christ growing up, maturing, and bearing more good fruit than we’ve recently been seeing. Some of the scriptures that resound in my heart are; Acts 6:4, Colossians 1:24-29, 1 Corinthians 3:5-7, John 15:1-16, and John 17.

From this appointment and the grace given to me I pray.

Father in heaven, where is the hunger in your people to know you better? The hunger to be a child of God and not just sing about it. The hunger for the righteousness given through faith in Jesus Christ and imparted into us by the Holy Spirit.

As I look across the institutions of church. I see many people interested in God when they can Him fit in their busy schedules. They have an inclination to grow in faith, but life is busy and growth takes time. I’m deeply concerned that we are living off scraps when there is a banquet spread. And it takes time to have a good meal. We don’t put the time into feeding our hearts and then we wonder why we are so weak and easily shaken and intimidated. Get hungry to know Jesus better.

Isaiah 55:3 “Incline your ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live.”

Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

My prayer for me

God grow my hunger and desire for you to overwhelm my desire for a good life on earth? Search me O God, and purify my heart from the desires that dull my hunger for you without nourishing my heart and soul. Holy Spirit lead me in scheduling time to feed my faith, showing me what I can cut out of my life that’s just clutter. It may be nice and it could be yesterdays blessing, but today its clutter.

“I am the first and the last” Jesus Christ, the Lord God Almighty

I see the gospel calling us to embrace Jesus Christ as the beginning and end of our solutions to all our problems, dilemmas, and disasters. The gospel that calls and invites us to come into repentance and rest in the saving mercy of Jesus Christ everyday; and invites us to quietly trust the grace of Jesus Christ in everything. Our Saviour is not only forgiveness, he is brilliant; he is wisdom and counsel; and he wants to give us the wisdom and understanding we need.

I believe Jesus is interceding in heaven for his body on earth to feel their deep gnawing hunger and know that he has provided fully for our hunger to be satisfied in Himself. This is gospel!

Will we wake up from our sleepy faith? (Romans 13:11-14)

God I pray my heart will be hungrier for you than ever before, hungry to desire to read scripture to know you better, hungry to worship as one with you. Help me by opening the eyes of my heart to see Jesus better than ever before.

I pray to be so hungry that I’m desperate to schedule time to feed on your word, to refresh my soul, and to know your rest as my daily reality not a slogan or future hope. May I fear living apart from abiding in you. May faith in you undergird all I am.

Will you allow yourself and your ideas of a good life to be messed up by our Lord?

Will we be light?

The gospel says, the followers of Jesus, together in Him, full of the Holy Spirit are the light of Christ shining on earth. Therefore, the church meets darkness by pressing into Christ and becoming brighter light.

It will be a practical light. This light will love its neighbour with actions and generosity. It will love its enemy. Light in Christ must forgive those who offend, and be mercy in face of judgement. It will be love in the face of fear. And this light will embrace the immigrant with generous hospitality. These are fruit flowing from the hearts of those whose hunger causes them to press into knowing Christ better. Often, we are trying to get better fruit without tending our hearts, we want the fruit of the Spirit without the losing our-self in Christ and the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

I pray for the body of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the church, to wake up, be freshly washed by his word, and to shine brightly.

Thanks for reading this, as I post this it is an intercession before God. Please share, comment, and critique. But in everything hunger to know Jesus Christ.
