How to Pray For Family Far from God

This blog is a few simple suggestions to help pray for family far from God. It’s not a formula or steps to follow. I find having some steps to follow helps to get me going, but always leave space for the Holy Spirit’s specific leadership in prayer.

Can I encourage you to see the Holy Spirit hovering over those lost from God, as he hovered over the darkness in Genesis 1:2. And to see that it’s the church, the ekklesia, the body of Christ who are entrusted and empowered to pray and speak the word of God into the darkness?

My faith for revival is growing, revival means the majority of people in New Zealand alive in Christ. While appreciating every prophetic word encouraging us to believe for revival; it’s going to take individual faith-filled action to bring revival.

Revival will only flow as believers, one by one, begin to carry their responsibility to pray for the lost from God to come home. To pray for people, one by one. And then to testify of our faith as opportunity comes (the opportunity we are praying for); and boldly invite and bring those far from God into gatherings of his eternal family on earth, his church. Gatherings where Jesus is lifted up, where the Holy Spirit leads, and where they are loved as family before they are saved.

I having a growing sense that salvation will flow to people as we clear the spiritual space around them in prayer, as they hear testimony of Jesus Christ and experience Christian community. The community is the testimony of Jesus, as we who believe are one they who don’t believe begin to believe. (John 17:20-21)

This mystery is believers unity sparks faith in unbelievers. Our Father in heaven is calling us to grow up, to mature in faith that is one with all who believe in Jesus Christ. This blog is not on that unity.

Five suggestions on praying for those far from God.

Pray that the Father would draw them to Jesus.

John 6:44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.

Revelation 22:17 “The Spirit and the bride say, Come!”

Bind the spirit that blinds their eyes.

2 Corinthians 4:4 “The god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel.”

Release to them the Spirit of Adoption (Sonship)

Romans 8:15 “For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by Him we cry, Abba Father.”

Pray for believers to enter into good relationships with them.

Matthew 9:38 “Ask the Lord to send out Labourers into his harvest field.”

Revelation 19:10 For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”

Can I suggest that as someone hears a Spirit enabled testimony of Jesus Christ it comes into their spirit as a prophecy. Holy Spirit filled words of life calling them to Jesus Christ. This is one way the Spirit and the bride say come.

Release the spirit of wisdom and revelation on them so they may know God better.

Ephesians 1:17 “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know hm better.

2 Corinthians 4:6 “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.”

Let’s Pray!
