A blog focused on seeking truth that empowers each of us to make choices consistent with truth, enabling us to live from conviction with confidence in uncertainty. The truth is always true; and is seen and discovered in the person Jesus Christ.
Often we talk of our passions as little gods, as if pursuing our passions is a good thing. I’m struggling with this. It is a great deception, which is leading many believers away from their ‘sonship’ in Jesus Christ. The spirit of this world with all its messages to us is not truth, not of the Father, not the Holy Spirit, and it anti-Christ. The spirit of this world is ‘anti’ trusting our ‘Father in heaven’ as Jesus trusted him, and ‘anti’ laying down our life in obedience to Him as Jesus did, and is ‘anti’ laying down our life in Christ for others as Jesus did. The spirit of this world will encourage us to be all about ourselves, to pursue our desires and passions.
We pursue our passion claiming its from God, and that we’re seeking the passion to serve God, but we’re really all about ourselves. We’re just using God as an excuse to serve ourselves and make it sound right or at least ‘spiritual’. Wake up! Don’t live in deception any longer.
Jesus was clear when he said:
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Matthew 16:24-26
There is only room for one passion in a circumcised heart
The above scripture is recorded six times in the gospels. The bible also talks of this ‘denying ourselves’ as circumcision. And in Jeremiah 9:25-26 says:
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will punish all those who are circumcised merely in the flesh — and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.”
Think of circumcision as commitment, as consecration, as the consuming passion in our heart and life. That which we freely and eagerly give our energy, time and money to. The Spirit is saying, people who claim to be God’s people are not merely circumcised in their flesh, they don’t just give God some Christian observance and behaviour modification while pursuing their own passions. No, they are circumcised in their hearts, there is only room for one passion in a circumcised heart.
Mixed passion creates sterile faith
Having mixed passions in our hearts is a reason for much confusion and weakness within the church. Our mixed passions are choking the life out of our faith and spiritual life in Christ. We may have received the saving word of Christ, but its choked from getting its roots into our heart and growing its fullness in our souls. As a result, because of our mixed passions, many of us are sterile Christians.
We are bringing our own judgement upon ourselves.
In his great mercy and his desire for our salvation God has enabled many of us to stay alive in our mixed state. We’re treating Him with contempt, while he is treating us with respect and love. The days are coming when what’s in our hearts will be released upon our lives. We are bringing our own judgements upon ourselves.
Please humble yourself before God, and ask Him to purify your heat in the blood of Jesus, by the Holy Spirit. Set yourself to have one passion, one desire; to know Jesus better. This passion will overflow in compassion for others. God is good, and will give us many good things. But he is jealous for our hearts, and our passion.
Let me leave you with scripture:
What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? 2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. 4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? 6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.( James 4:1-10)
I am writing this as a prayer of intercession for the body of Christ, for you. Please hear what the Spirit is saying! I’d love your comment and critique.
