Covenant is a concept of relationship I and many struggle to grasp. But for me the evidence is clear, it is only in covenant we find great life!
What is covenant?
It is a binding relationship in which two become one. It’s mystery is they also become themselves more they could out of covenant.
Only in covenant do we discover life and love in it’s fullness, freedom, strength, depth, height, and width. A covenant, is great love, great faith, trust, and courage between two persons binding them together. It will begin small and grow as they learn to, live out covenant together; but it is always great and special!
Ironically covenant which creates and enables great life is marked by death – it is dying to live! This is seen in the story of the seed, as jesus told it in John 12 of the Bible, unless a seed goes into the ground and dies it remains a single seed, but if it goes into the ground and dies it becomes many seeds.
We see something of covenant in every flourishing marriage, in every great sports team. Where each individual dies to their own agenda for the what is best for the team.
This is the pattern of relationship offered by God! In Christ our God died to being God isolated from us, and now he invites us to join him, in dying to our isolation from Him, to live as One with Him!
We can love because God has first loved us. We can covenant with Him, and in marriage, because he as first covenanted with us.
